Subject: Assistance Request – Unable to Re-add Phone Number to Microsoft Account

Dear Microsoft Support Team,

My name is Fikri, and I am experiencing an issue while trying to re-add my phone number to my Microsoft account. I had previously added this number and later removed it. However, when I attempt to add it again, I receive an error message stating: “The country code does not match.”

I have ensured that:

  • I selected the Indonesia country code (+62) from the dropdown list, rather than entering it manually.
  • The phone number format is correct, without a leading zero (e.g., +62812xxxxxxx).
  • I have tried using different browsers and devices.

Despite these efforts, the issue persists. I kindly request your assistance to:

  1. Clarify what the error message “The country code does not match” means.
  2. Help me successfully re-add my phone number to my account.

    Hi Fikri, Thanks for posting here in Microsoft community, here’s what you can try.

     

    To fix the country code does not match error, first, double-check country code, ensure you're selecting +62 (Indonesia) from the dropdown, not typing it manually.

    Then remove formatting: Enter your number without spaces, dashes, or leading zero. Example: 81234567890 not 0812... or +62812...

    Also, Clear cache or use incognito mode: Sometimes browser cache causes issues.

    And try a different browser/device, you’ve done this good step.

    Wait 24 hours, If the number was recently removed, it might still be in a cooldown period.

    Also, you can Contact Microsoft Support, if it still fails, they may need to manually release the number. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus
