Hello @Joshua Robert Goulding
Welcome to Q&A forum!
Thank you for reaching out to us.
I completely understand how important it is to preserve years of valuable conversations. However, after reviewing the information, I need to clarify a few things to support you:
- Microsoft Teams (Education accounts) often have limited export/archive options compared to enterprise accounts.
- Chat messages are stored in Exchange Online mailboxes, but users typically can't export them directly from Teams.
- If your university is using Microsoft 365 Education, your IT admin may have access to tools like Content Search to export chat history.
Use Microsoft Teams Compliance Tools (Admin Required)
If you have access to your university’s IT support:
- Contact your university’s IT administrator.
- Ask if they can run a Content Search for your Teams chat history.
- They can export chats in PST or CSV format from Microsoft Purview (formerly Compliance Center).

Along the way, this method depends heavily on your IT admin, and it may not display the chat threads in the usual Teams format as you might expect.
In my opinion, I think you should double-check and back up any important documents or images to your personal device to ensure you can preserve memorable moments with your colleagues.
To do this, you can click into each conversation or chat thread in Teams, then click "Shared" to view the files and media you exchanged.

Finally, I hope you’ll be able to stay connected with your colleagues by creating a private group chat if possible so you can continue building new memories and strengthen your relationships.*
Wishing you all the best and every success in the journey ahead!
