Dear @Carol Henck
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Forum!
Based on your concern, Microsoft 365 subscriptions are tied to the user's Microsoft account, not to a specific device. This means:
- You don’t need to buy a new subscription.
- You can install Microsoft 365 on multiple devices (up to 5 PCs or Macs, 5 tablets, and 5 smartphones per user). Reference: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365-apps/licensing-activation/overview-licensing-activation-microsoft-365-apps
- Your files and settings (if saved to OneDrive or synced via your account) will be accessible once you sign in on the new laptop.
Therefore, here are steps for you to do it:
- Sign in to the new laptop with your Microsoft account.
- Go to the Microsoft 365 portal: https://www.office.com
- Click “Install Office” to download the installer.
- Run the installer and follow the prompts.
- Once installed, open any Office app (Word, Excel, etc.) and sign in with your Microsoft account to activate.
I hope this information can help you. Wish you a pleasant day!
