Teams auto kicking out extrenal users from chat.

We've come across what seems like a bug.

We have a number of users who are part of a chat with "external" users. However, randomly these External users get kicked out of the chat with the message "********** was removed from the chat.**"

We done some digging and have found logs of an admin removing the user out of the chat (which is not the case) - however, we also found that the action prior to this. Is that the admin disabled the user account that created the chat and invited the External person to it.

It seems that once the original chat creator / inviter of the external person is disabled, M365/Teams kicks out the external person of any group chat even if it includes other internal people in it.

If another internal member then tries to add the External person back in they are met with the following error message:
"We couldn't add one or more people to the chat, You don't have permissions to add certain people to the chat. Contact your IT admin for info. Learn more"

As far as we're concerned this should not be happening and the chat should remain intact with all the members (internal and external) regardless if the person who created the chat leaves the business.

    Hi CF

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum

To better understand your situation, may I clarify a few details:

1.Are you using Microsoft Teams for Education (for schools) Or Teams Business/Enterprise (standard business)?

2.What role did the disabled account (the chat creator) have? (Teacher, student, or internal staff?)

3.Were the external users who got kicked out students from another school or just external business partners/collaborators?

4.Among the remaining internal users in the chat, is anyone labeled as “Supervisor” or “Teacher”

This initial response may not fully address everything you need, but it should help me better understand your situation. Please check and let me know what you find so I can investigate further.
