Hi @VERONE Julia,
Thank you for posting your question to Microsoft Q&A Forum.
To assist you more accurately, could you please provide the following details about your issue?
- Are GIFs disabled for everyone in your organization, or only for your account?
- Do you see the GIF button in the chat composer?
- Which version of Teams are you using: desktop app, web app, or mobile? What operating system are you on (Windows, macOS, iOS, Android)?
- Can you describe the error in more detail? For example, do GIFs keep loading, appear blank, or fail to send?
- Has your IT team confirmed that Giphy is enabled in the Teams Admin Center? If yes, they may also need to check Optional Connected Experiences or network restrictions.
Once I have a clearer understanding of your current situation, I’ll be happy to assist you with greater accuracy. Please feel free to share any additional details you believe are relevant. Screenshots are especially helpful and much appreciated.
In the meantime, if you’re part of an organization (using a Microsoft 365 work or school account), there’s a strong chance that GIFs were disabled by your IT admin using a messaging policy.
You can ask your IT admin to:
- Go to https://admin.teams.microsoft.com and log in with your admin credentials.
- Navigate to Messaging Policies
- In the left-hand menu, select Teams → Messaging policies.

- Select the Correct Policy
- Find the policy currently applied to the user (e.g., Global (Org-wide default) or a custom policy).
- Click on the policy name to edit it.
- Enable the Following Settings
- Giphy in conversations: Set to On.
- Stickers and Memes: Set to On.
- Content Rating for Giphy: Choose Moderate or Strict (do not set to Off).

- Save Changes
- Click Save at the bottom of the page.
- Wait for Policy to Apply
- Changes can take up to 1 hour to propagate across Teams.
As an end user, you can try to clear Teams cache by following this guide: Clear the Teams client cache - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn
Teams stores cached media and chat data to load faster. But if the cache gets corrupted, features like GIFs not showing in Teams become common.
You can also try Microsoft Team Web version to see if the issue persists there. The web version of Teams often works independently from the installed app and may bypass local bugs. If GIFs work here but not in the app, the desktop installation is likely corrupted.
