Cannot add State Configuration (DSC) to Automation Account

Hello,

I can't add DSC State Configuration in Azure Automation service. The Add button is disabled for me.

It looks like you're having trouble adding State Configuration (DSC) to your Azure Automation account because the Add button is disabled.

Make sure that your Azure account has sufficient permissions to modify the Azure Automation account. You’ll need at least the "Owner" or "Contributor" role for the Automation account.

You can check Your Role here:

Go to the Azure Portal > your Automation Account.

Open Access Control (IAM).

Click Check Access and search for your user account.

Ensure you have Contributor or Owner role.

Verify that your Automation account is not disabled. If the account has been disabled due to unusual activity, it may affect your ability to add configurations.

If your Azure Automation account uses Private Link, misconfigurations can prevent access to features like DSC State Configuration, including disabling the "Add" button.

Since Azure Automation State Configuration will be retired on September 30, 2027, you can transition to Azure Machine Configuration by that date. For more information

What role do you have assigned in the Azure portal for the Automation account?

Are you able to access and manage other aspects of the Automation account, or is it just the DSC configuration that's problematic?

I'm the owner of the subscription account and have the owner role for the account as well.

Automation account is not configured to use private link.

The issue is just with DSC.

From what I have researched online, it seems someone from Microsoft operations needs to enable that option for the account.

Hello Vijay Goswami, as per the below Microsoft official document: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/automation/automation-dsc-compile User's image Starting in March 2025, the Azure portal will no longer provide the options to Add or Compose configuration, as these navigation links have been removed.

With respect to enabling this option for your account, we will review the situation and keep you updated.
