I am trying to get assignments to open in teams. I have tried using desktop app, website, and phone teams, but cannot get it to load on any of them. I have tried quitting teams and all have been updated to the newest model. I can see the normal channel of teams, but cannot click into any of the side categories.

    Hello @Lilly Draheim,

Good day! Thank you for posting your valuable question on Microsoft Q&A forum.

We are currently aware of an ongoing service issue impacting the Assignments app in Microsoft Teams for certain Education (EDU) tenants located in the Europe region. This issue may cause assignments to remain in a loading state and fail to open as expected.

If you are in the affected region, please note the following:

    • Summary of Impact: A service degradation in Microsoft Teams is affecting the ability to open or load assignments and grades. The issue primarily impacts EDU tenants in Europe, with some admins in the UK and Netherlands experiencing difficulties.
    • Impact Time Start: November 12, 2025, 09:12 AM UTC
    • Scope of Impact: EDU users and admins in the Europe region are affected, particularly when accessing assignments and grades in Microsoft Teams. The impact is estimated at less than 50% of users.
    • Action Taken: The engineering team is actively investigating by reviewing service telemetry and support data. Targeted mitigations are being applied to affected infrastructure, and backend components are being restarted to reduce impact.
    • Contributing Factors: Root cause remains under investigation, with focus on backend infrastructure components and related elements within Teams.
    • Next Steps: Continue monitoring and apply additional mitigations as needed.

If you are not located in Europe, please let me know, and I’ll be happy to assist you with troubleshooting steps tailored to your situation.

We understand the importance of uninterrupted access to Assignments for educators and students, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Our engineering teams are working diligently to restore full functionality as quickly as possible.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we work toward a resolution. We will provide updates as soon as more information becomes available.

    Hello @Lilly Draheim,

Thank you for your patience and for reporting the issue.

Here’s the latest update on the service incident:

    • Current Status: Service has been fully restored. The incident occurred between 08:09 and 15:30 UTC on November 12, 2025.
    • Impact: EDU tenants in the Europe region experienced issues opening or loading assignments and grades in Teams.
    • What Happened: A failure in a subsection of infrastructure serving EDU users caused temporary service degradation. Engineering applied targeted mitigations, restarted backend components, scaled additional infrastructure, and adjusted configurations to restore service.
    • Next Steps: Microsoft engineering is reviewing contributing factors and will publish a Post‑Incident Report (PIR) summarizing the root cause and prevention measures.

    If you still experience issues:

If problems persist, please create a new Q&A thread in this forum so we can investigate your specific scenario. Root causes often vary by environment, account type, add-ins, and recent changes. A dedicated thread helps avoid cross‑signals and speeds up troubleshooting.

We sincerely apologize for the disruption and appreciate your understanding.
