    Hi Jose Galvez,

Thanks for reaching out, Microsoft Q&A

I have received a email saying that IP addresses was retired and i need to upgrade it. But for that, i need to disable it first. How can i upgrade it as the message says without losing the IP?

You can keep using your Basic SKU Public IPs with Azure Cloud Services (extended support), as they aren’t impacted by the retirement notice. However, be aware that beginning March 31, 2026, the hourly pricing for Basic SKU Public IPs will go up.

    Option 1:

You can follow this MS-Document, to upgrade Basic IP to Standard IP address.
Screenshot of the migrate tab for migrating a virtual network gateway.

Note: Microsoft is enabling the Migrate tab by region wise, so you may need to wait until the option becomes available in your portal.

    Option 2:
Below are instructions for upgrading the Basic SKU Dynamic Public IP associated with your resource. The Public IP address is maintained if you switch it to Static first. The entire process only takes a couple of minutes. Steps to Retain Public IP During Upgrade:

    • Go to Public IP address → Settings → Configuration, select Static, and click Save.
    • Wait for the save notification. Ignore the message saying it can’t be updated due to association.
    • Go to Overview → Properties, verify it shows Static, refresh (F5), and confirm again.
    • Click Dissociate, note the VM’s network interface name, then confirm Yes (network will be temporarily interrupted).
    • After dissociation, click Upgrade to Standard SKU, check the box, and confirm Yes.
    • Once the upgrade completes, click Associate to reattach the IP.
