Hi,
Since the recent Microsoft Teams threads update, I've been having issues with notifications. I keep on automatically following threads while having it turned off; Screenshot 2025-11-14 at 11.12.14Screenshot 2025-11-14 at 11.12.37

And the weird part is, in the "Followed threads" says I follow the thread;Screenshot 2025-11-14 at 11.13.24

But using the 3 dots at the actually thread says I am not following the thread;

The unnecessary notifications are very annoying and very distracting.

It seems to only happen with a few channels, which before the threads update; I had shown, but notifications for these channels specifically turned off. This setting also seems to have disappeared (see second image)

    Hi @Maikel

    Welcome to Q&A Community!

Thank you for contacting us and for providing detailed information along with screenshots. I understand how confusing unexpected notifications can be, especially when you have taken steps to disable them. I appreciate your patience while we review this matter.

Referring to the official article Follow threads in Microsoft Teams - Microsoft Support, to minimize unnecessary notifications, you should:

    Verify Global Auto-Follow Settings

Navigate to Settings > Notifications > Automatically follow threads in channels and confirm that all options are unchecked:

    • Threads started from my messages or posts
    • Threads I reply to
    • Threads where I am @mentioned

    Manually Unfollow Threads

In the Followed threads section, select the three dots next to the thread and choose Unfollow thread. This will stop notifications for that specific thread.

    Reset Channel Notification Settings

For channels where this issue occurs, try:

    • Temporarily set Notify me for all new posts to On, then revert to Off.
    • Toggle Follow all new threads on and off to refresh the configuration.

In case the issue persists, try clearing Teams Cache to see if it works.

For details: Clear the Teams client cache - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn

However, if the issue persists after these steps:

    • Ensure you are using the latest version of Microsoft Teams.
    • If your organization is enrolled in Public Preview, this behavior may be related to early rollout changes.

Microsoft is actively monitoring feedback on this update, and improvements are expected in upcoming releases. Please also submit feedback through Help > Give feedback in Teams or via Ideas · Community. Your valuable feedback will be reviewed by Microsoft Developers for future updates.

I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding as these changes are refined. As forum moderators, I unfortunately don't have direct permissions to product changes.

Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation.

    Hi @Phoebe-N ,
2 of those suggested solutions I've already tried ("Verify Global Auto-Follow Settings" & "Reset Channel Notification Settings" - see images).
The "Manually Unfollow Threads" (which I also) is not a prevention, as it means you already got the notification already. In my company we have quite a bit of channels, so I get like ±5 notifications an hour, really distracting.
