What does an apostrophe used before a number indicate in the header column of a financial spreadsheet?

Hi there, Can anyone tell me what the £'000 column header makes the figures below it?....What figure in £ is 416?

    When a column header shows £'000, it means that all numbers in that column are expressed in thousands of pounds. Effectively, you must multiply the shown number by 1,000 to get the actual pound value.

    So if you see 416 under a £'000 heading, the actual amount is £416,000.

    It's just shorthand to avoid writing lots of zeros.
