Some students cannot see assignments

Some students in my Class can see the set assignment, but some of them receive a screen which says 'no assignments in this class yet'. I have checked all settings and all students are definitely assigned to the work.

All I can think is that the issue may be that they are all using external email addresses for the organisation and are in the class as 'guests'. Could there be a settings issue with their account which is stopping some of the external members viewing assignments but means others can?

It sounds like the issue may be related to the permissions and settings associated with guest accounts in Microsoft Teams. When students are added as guests, their access to certain features, including assignments, can be limited compared to full members of the organization. Here are a few things to check:

    1. Guest Access Settings: Ensure that the settings for guest access in your Teams environment allow guests to view assignments. You can manage these settings in the Teams Admin Center.
    2. Class Membership: Verify that all students are correctly assigned to the class and that their guest accounts have been set up properly. Sometimes, discrepancies in how accounts are set up can lead to access issues.
    3. Assignment Visibility: Check the assignment settings to ensure that they are not restricted to specific users or groups. If the assignment is set to be visible only to certain members, guests may not see it.
    4. Email Address Verification: Since some students are using external email addresses, confirm that these addresses are properly linked to their guest accounts and that there are no issues with their email settings.

If after checking these settings the issue persists, consider reaching out to Microsoft support for further assistance regarding guest access and assignments.

    Hello @Sarah Hall,

Good day! Thank you for posting your valuable question on Microsoft Q&A forum.

To help us provide the most accurate guidance, could you share a few more details about the students who can’t see the assignments?

    • Are they accessing Teams through the desktop app, web version, or mobile app?
    • Are they all using the same operating system (Windows, macOS, iOS, Android), or is it mixed?
    • When you mentioned they’re using external email addresses, does that apply to all students in the class, or only the ones having issues?
    • Were these guest students added through Microsoft Entra B2B collaboration (as guest accounts in your tenant), or simply added as guests directly in the Teams client?
    • After being added as guests, did they receive and accept the invitation email?
    • If you remove and re-add the affected students, do they then see the assignment?

This extra context will help us understand your setup and what you’ve already tried, so we can suggest the most effective solution for your environment.

In the meantime, please make sure your students sign in to the correct accounts.

I apologize for not jumping straight to a solution. I want to avoid suggesting anything that might be inaccurate or unhelpful. Once I have the details above, I’ll be able to assist you more effectively and guide you toward the right resolution.

Looking forward to your response so we can get this sorted out for you as soon as possible.
