Work and home account under work name

Through my work, I was able to get a family plan at home for an annual fee. The problem is, in order for me to do that I had to create both accounts under the same work email address. If the Microsoft system know this it will usually state, "You have multiple accounts. Please select your business or personal account." This process usually works. However...there are times where it does not ask and it will only allow the "work" account and won't ask for which account I would like to use on my personal devices. As soon as I enter that password, it comes back and says, "You are not allowed to access work resources from personal devices." Is it possible to keep the Work\Family plan on a different account. I could set one up from my personal email address, but I don't want to lose the rights to the software I'm paying for already.

Hello Wrbelis, Chris - Grand Rapids, MI •,

I understand the situation clearly. Since both your work account and Microsoft 365 Family subscription are tied to the same work email, the system sometimes defaults to the work identity. When that happens, company policies block access on personal devices, preventing you from using the Family plan features.

The best way to avoid this conflict is to transfer your Family subscription to a personal Microsoft account (such as Outlook.com or Gmail). You won’t lose what you’ve already paid for — you can reassign or share the license from account.microsoft.com/services. This ensures you always sign in as “Personal” and keeps your subscription separate from work policies.
