How to renew my developer program subscription after letting it lapse and get deleted

I had a developer account but the subscription was deleted after not being able to access it for a while due to a house fire. Now when I login I can see that the subscription is expired and the data deleted but I don't have any option available to create a new subscription or renew the existing subscription to regain access to the program. I tried to make a new account all together and signup but it won't allow me to use the same phone number as the existing account. How do I resolve this?

To renew your Microsoft 365 Developer Program subscription after it has lapsed and been deleted, you will need to create a new account. However, since you mentioned that you cannot use the same phone number as your existing account, you will need to delete your previous account first. Here are the steps you can follow:

    1. Delete the Existing Account: If you have access to the dashboard, sign in and choose Delete Profile to remove your existing account. Note that you can only create a new subscription after your existing subscription has been deleted for more than 60 days.
    2. Wait for 60 Days: After deleting your account, you will need to wait for 60 days before you can create a new Developer Program account using the same phone number.
    3. Create a New Account: Once the waiting period is over, you can sign up for a new Microsoft 365 Developer Program account using your phone number.

If you prefer to avoid the waiting period, consider using a different phone number to create a new account immediately. However, ensure that you are using a valid account type as specified in the guidelines for signing up for the Developer Program.

If you have any further issues, you may want to contact Microsoft support for assistance.

    Hi Shane Burke

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Forum! Have a good day and I hope you're doing well!

I completely understand how frustrating it must feel to come back and find your subscription permanently deleted and your phone number still locked.

Just to quickly explain how the renewal works: Microsoft uses telemetry and algorithms to check for real development activit. They review this regularly. If no valid development activity is detected for an extended period, the subscription expires. After expiration you have 30 days to migrate data, then another 30 days of admin-only access, and on day 60 the tenant and all data are permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.

Please also review the official FAQ section for more details: Microsoft 365 Developer Program FAQ

At this point you have two options:

Fastest way (highly recommended): Simply use a different phone number and sign up again today at https://developer.microsoft.com/microsoft-365/dev-program. You’ll have a fresh tenant in minutes.

If you really want to reuse your original phone number: Normally, you should go to https://developer.microsoft.com/microsoft-365/profile using the account that first used the phone number and choose Delete Profile if you no longer want to use this profile. In theory, this action will remove the old profile and release the phone number. After that, you can sign up again and verify using the same number.

However, please note that even after deleting the old profile, there is typically a 60-day waiting period before the original phone number becomes fully available for a new subscription. This is part of the program’s policy to prevent abuse.

Please note that as forum moderators, we cannot directly delete or modify Developer Program profiles on your behalf. If you’re unable to access the profile page or the steps above don’t work, just let me know.

I hope this helps clarify what happened and your options. If I’ve misunderstood anything about your setup or if anything is unclear, please let me know.
