To prevent Bing search results from opening in new tabs in Microsoft Edge, you can try the following steps:

    1. Check Edge Settings: Go to edge://settings and look for any settings related to tabs or pop-ups that might be causing new tabs to open. Make sure that options for opening new tabs are disabled.
    2. Adjust Search Settings: While you mentioned that Bing is set not to open new windows, double-check the settings on the Bing homepage or in your account settings to ensure that there are no conflicting options.
    3. Use the Address Bar: Instead of using the Bing homepage, try using the Edge address bar for searches. This method typically opens results in the same tab rather than a new one.
    4. Browser Extensions: Check if any browser extensions might be affecting how links open. Disable any extensions that could interfere with tab behavior and see if that resolves the issue.
    5. Clear Cache and Cookies: Sometimes, clearing the cache and cookies can help reset any unwanted behaviors. You can do this in Edge by going to edge://settings/clearBrowserData.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, consider reaching out to Microsoft support for further assistance.

    Hello Rottie,

Thank you for reaching out about this concern I understand how frustrating it can be to end up with multiple tabs open when you only want to keep your browsing simple. This behavior often happens because of specific settings in Bing or Edge that control how links open.

One effective way to address this is by adjusting Bing’s search settings directly. After performing a search on Bing click the three-line menu in the upper-right corner go to Settings then select SafeSearch. Scroll down to the Results section and uncheck the options that say “Open links from search results in a new tab or window” and “Open links from news results in a new tab or window.” Save your changes and restart the browser to apply them. This should ensure that search results open in the same tab instead of creating new ones.

Could you try this and let me know if it resolves the issue?

I hope this answer is helpful if you have further questions feel free to reply back

    Regards,

    Marcelo

    Hi Rottie,

To find these settings start by opening Bing in Edge and signing in so your changes are saved. Click the menu icon in the top-right corner, choose Settings then go to SafeSearch. Scroll down until you see the Results section there you’ll find two options: Open links from search results in a new tab or window and Open links from news results in a new tab or window. Make sure both are unchecked then scroll to the bottom and click Save.

If those are already off check Edge itself. Type edge://settings in the address bar and look under Start, home and new tabs to confirm nothing is set to force links into new tabs. Also review Privacy, search and services under Address bar and search to make sure your search engine settings look correct.

Edge doesn’t have a direct toggle for Bing’s “open in new tab” behavior because that’s controlled by Bing but you can still check Pop-ups and redirects under Cookies and site permissions and disable any extensions that might override tab behavior.

If you still can’t locate these options go back to Bing, open the menu, select Settings then More (sometimes labeled as SafeSearch). the results section is where those two checkboxes live.

    Best regards,

    Marcelo
