HI Arpan Neupane,
I understand you are unable to create resources like Storage Accounts or Azure ML Workspaces due to a RequestDisallowedByAzure error referencing the sys.regionrestriction policy.
While this Q&A forum is for technical questions about Azure services (like AI, IoT, etc.), policy issues are handled by different team. However, I will try to provide a workaround to solve this issue.
This is a known behavior for the Azure for Students subscription, which has strict regional limitations to manage capacity for free tiers. Microsoft applies this policy to student and free-tier subscriptions to ensure service availability. You cannot delete or disable this policy yourself. However, the policy definition actually contains the list of regions where you are allowed to deploy.
Recommended steps:
Step 1: Identify Your Allowed Regions, you can verify exactly which regions are open to you in the Azure Portal:
This list contains the specific regions (e.g., "East US 2", "Central US", "North Europe") where you can successfully create resources.
Step 2: Retry Deployment Once you have the list from Step 1, try creating your Storage Account or Azure ML Workspace again, but explicitly select one of the allowed regions during the setup process.
Note: If "East US" is blocked, try "East US 2" or "Central US" as these are often available to students.
I would also suggest Verifying Region Availability, Check the Azure Portal first to see if the region you’re trying to use is supported for your intended resources (like Storage Accounts or Azure ML Workspaces). You can use the Azure Region Selector to confirm this.
