Need to change volume in Audio Options in meeting before I can hear anything

Dear community,

About 50% of the meetings I join, I do not hear anything until I change the volume within the Teams meeting via the Audio Settings in the call. The issue does not always occur but I'd guess about 50%.

I have had issues in the past where I would not get any audio at all on my Bluetooth headset, or it would disconnect during a meeting, but I seem to fix this issue by changing the audio volume in the audio settings during the meeting.

The other participant(s) can hear me talking, and I see in the Teams screen that they talk with the blue highlight, but I need to wait till I change audio volume. My headset is not muted when I join the meeting, and Teams itself does not show the audio output as muted nor does Windows.

Does anyone know how to resolve this issue so that I do not need change volume upon entering a meeting?

    Hello  @Iwema, Sibren

    Welcome to the Q&A Community!

Thank you for reaching out. I understand that you often need to adjust the audio volume in Teams before you can hear participants, even though your headset isn’t muted and Teams shows the correct audio device. To make sure we're aligned and avoid from any misunderstanding, please let me know a few details about your issue by answering these questions:

    1. Are you signed in with a personal account (e.g., @hotmail.com, @outlook.com), an education account (e.g., @school.edu), or a work account (e.g., @yourcompany.com)? Could you confirm if you're signed in to your correct account?
    2. Are you connecting via Bluetooth only, or using a USB dongle?
    3. Which version of Windows are you running?
    4.  Is your Teams client updated to the latest version?
    5. Does this happen only with Bluetooth devices or also with wired headsets?
    6. Do you experience similar issues in other conferencing apps (Zoom, Webex)?

In the meantime, I recommend you try these steps to prevent the issue from recurring:

Update Drivers and Teams to the latest versions

    • Update your Bluetooth headset drivers and Windows audio drivers.

For detailed instructions: Update drivers through Device Manager in Windows - Microsoft Support

    • Ensure Teams is updated to the latest version.

    Set Default Audio Devices

In Windows Sound Settings, set your headset as both the default output device and default communication device.

Kindly go to Settings > System > Sound > check the options for Input and Output.

    undefined

Before joining a meeting, kindly make sure you click Audio Settings on the pre-join screen and confirm the correct device is selected.

    Clear Teams Cache

For detailed instructions: Clear the Teams client cache - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn

Please try these steps and let me know if the issue persists. I look forward to your response.

Settings>Sound>Volume mixer will show the MS Teams having TWO vol menus, check both, one will work (only) for your call. Silly bug that MSFT is unable of??

Thanks for checking back in. I wanted to wait for a few days and see if the issue got resolved. For now, the issue did not re-appear after removing all local files of Teams (in \AppData\Local\Packages\MSTeams_xxxxxx)

I will mark this as a solution for any other user with the same issue.

Edit: Happened again during a meeting today
