Microsoft Edge won't open on Windows 11 devices

Hi,

I work in a school district with around 350 staff and 3,000 students. In the last month, we are noticing that a growing handful of teachers (and only one student) can no longer launch Microsoft Edge. When trying to open it, nothing happens at all. We have tried the following:

  • Running a repair
  • Running updates
  • Uninstalling/re-installing
  • Deleting a user's profile
  • Performing a complete wipe of the device and reinstalling the OS (Win 11)

After performing a complete wipe, Edge will work for a very brief period of time, and then will no longer launch again. Our teachers all have an HP Pro x360 Fortis 11 inch G10. We had a theory this this might have something to do with the HP devices themselves. Upon checking inventory, we noticed some of the devices that are having this problem came from one fleet of devices ordered. However, we are finding that a fleet of the same devices from a second order also seem to be having this issue.

Has anyone come across this issue before? The default browser set for all students and staff is set to Edge. Teachers are able to work around this by using Chrome, but if this issue spreads to our student devices, we have a much bigger problem.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Jill

    Hi Jill,

Thank you for posting, I am here to help. I’m Sorry you are having this problem. Thank you for sharing all this information and troubleshooting steps you did.

When you reinstall the Windows 11 may i know is it using a USB drive?.

If still facing the problem after reinstalling Windows 11 try this.

Run System file checker to fix some corrupted files on your Windows.

Click start button and search and open CMD. Once CMD window appear enter this command sfc /scannow then press enter. Wait for the scan to be completed and once done restart your device.
