Not Receiving Notifications on Android Mobile App for Chats

I've seen quite a few questions on this and would like to think of myself as computer and phone literate but I can't for the life of me get chat notifications to show on my Samsung Galaxy S25+. I can only see new chats when I open the mobile app. I have all permissions exception location and nearby devices on.

Things I've tried:

-Deleted and reinstalled the Teams mobile app twice

-checked settings, including notifications on mobile and desktop apps (can't take screenshots of mobile app bc of company restrictions)

-called Samsung support, they shared access to my phone and nothing

-I don't see how to log a ticket with Microsoft but have sent in feedback to be contacted.

Is there a workaround?! Something similar to a mobile Teams issue when using headphones on Android and you have to toggle off the audio setting on headphones...

Help!

    Hi @Kyle,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

I can get how inconvenience it can be to miss chat notifications, and I appreciate the effort you’ve already put into troubleshooting.

Just to clarify, Outlook and Teams follow different notification policies. So even if Outlook notifications work fine, Teams might be affected by your organization’s settings.

This issue usually happens for a few reasons:

    • Notification channels for chats might be set to Silent even if notifications are allowed.
    • Battery optimization or Samsung’s “Put apps to sleep” feature can block push notifications.
    • If your company uses Intune policies, they might restrict or hide Teams notifications for security reasons.

To help narrow down the root cause, could you please confirm:

1/ Is Teams installed in a Work Profile (managed by your company) or just on the personal side?

2/ Do notifications fail only for chats, or for mentions, calls, and meetings too?

3/ Is Do Not Disturb or Battery Saver turned on?

While we're waiting for your response to the questions above, here are some steps that often help:

    1/ Enable notification categories:

Go to Settings > Apps > Teams > Notifications.

    • Tap Manage Notification Categories and enable all relevant toggles (Chat, Mentions, Calls).

    2/ Adjust Teams Settings:

    • In Teams mobile app: Profile > Settings > Notifications.
    • Ensure Chats are set to “Banner and Feed.”
    • Disable “Block notifications when active on other devices” if you want alerts even when using desktop.

    3/ Check System Settings:

    • Disable Battery Optimization for Teams: Settings > Apps > Teams > Battery > Don’t optimize.
    • Turn off Data Saver for Teams.

    4/ Clear Cache:

    • Settings > Apps > Teams > Storage > Clear Cache.

5/ If Teams is in Work Profile:

    • Open Company Portal and confirm compliance.
    • Ask your IT admin to check if App Protection Policies are blocking notifications. If they’re set to “Blocked,” only your admin can change that.

6/ Update Teams and Samsung Software:

    • Make sure both are on the latest version.

You can also look for more Troubleshooting steps for notifications in Microsoft Teams mobile apps here.

If these steps don’t work, the issue may be tied to Samsung’s One UI notification handling. In that case, you can:

    • Use Teams on web as a temporary workaround.
    • Or ask your IT admin to create a ticket to Microsoft Support.

I hope this information is helpful. Please follow these steps and let me know if it works for you. If not, we can work together to resolve this.

Thank you for your patience and your understanding. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to share them in the comments on this post so I can continue to support you.

I look forward to continuing the conversation.

My company pairs Microsoft apps with Microsoft Authenticator and I get Outlook notifications from that mobile app fine.

    Hi @Kyle,

Thank you for confirming all those details and for taking the time to try the steps, it really helps narrow things down.

Since Teams and your device settings look good and there are no company restrictions, the issue may indeed be tied to Samsung’s One UI notification handling. Here are a few things you can check:

1/ Notification categories in One UI:

    • Go to Settings > Notifications > Advanced Settings.
    • Make sure Show notifications while screen is off and Allow notifications for all apps are enabled.
    • Under App notifications, confirm Teams is set to Alert (not Silent).

    2/ App-Specific notification style:

    • In Settings > Apps > Teams > Notifications, check if Pop-up notifications or Floating notifications are allowed.
    • Enable App icon badges for Teams if disabled.

3/ Samsung battery & Background settings:

    • Go to Settings > Battery and Device Care > Battery > Background usage limits.
    • Ensure Teams is not listed under “Sleeping apps” or “Deep sleeping apps.”
    • Turn off Adaptive Battery temporarily to test.

    4/ Notification history:

    • Enable Notification history under Settings > Notifications to confirm if alerts are being suppressed.

If these don’t resolve the issue, it could be a deeper One UI behavior with push notifications. In that case:

    • Try disabling Samsung’s “Optimize notifications” feature (found under Advanced Notification Settings).
    • As a last resort, you can use Teams on web or desktop for critical alerts until Samsung releases an update.

You’ve done a great job troubleshooting so far. If the problem persists after these checks, I recommend sharing feedback in Teams and also reporting it via Samsung Members app, this helps both teams investigate compatibility issues. As a forum moderator, I hope you understand that I don’t have the ability to modify or escalate product issues directly. This is the most effective way to ensure your voice reaches the product team and can be considered for future improvements.

You can do this in Teams by selecting Help > Feedback, or through the Microsoft 365 Feedback Hub > Send Feedback > Describe your proposal in detail so the team can consider it for future improvements.
