Thank you for reaching out about the missing chat section in Microsoft Teams.
If you’ve created a new chat and it’s not showing in the chat list on the left, here are a few steps to help troubleshoot the issue:
- Search for the Chat
If the chat doesn’t appear in the list but you know you created it, use the Search bar at the top of Teams to search for the name of the chat or the participants involved.
- If it shows up in search results, you can click on it to open it.
- If you can’t find it using the search bar, it’s possible the chat wasn't created successfully.
- Check for sync issues
- Teams might not have updated your chat list yet.
- Try signing out and back in, or close and reopen the Teams app.
- Recreate the Chat
- If the chat is nowhere to be found and you’re still unable to locate it, try creating the chat again using the desktop app or web version.
- This might be helpful if there was a glitch that prevented the chat from being saved or displayed properly
- Clear cache
For Windows:
- If Teams is still running, right-click the Teams icon on the taskbar, and then select Quit.
- Pressing Windows+R to open the Run dialog box.
- In the Run dialog box, enter the following path, and then select OK.
%userprofile%\appdata\local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams
- Delete all files and folders in the directory.
- Restart Teams.
For macOS:
- If Teams is still running, right-click the Teams icon in the dock, and then select Quit or press Command+Q.
- In the Finder, open the /Applications/Utilities folder, and then double-click Terminal.
- Enter the following commands, and press Return after each command:
rm -rf ~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.com.microsoft.teams
rm -rf ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.teams2
- Restart Teams.
- Contact IT admin
- If the issue still persists, I recommend you reach out your IT admin for further assistance. If needed, they can submit a support ticket through Microsoft 365 admin center for for a more detailed investigation.
