I have a new work laptop. Surface 7. As I am preparing for my presentation I found out that there is no HDMi port on this laptop. I ask the office but I got no answer. Can you please tell me the exact wire name that I should buy for myself to use? Many Thanks.

To connect your Surface Laptop 7 to a wider screen for presentations, you can use a USB-C to HDMI cable. Since the Surface Laptop 7 does not have a dedicated HDMI port, this type of cable will allow you to connect to an HDMI-enabled display.

You can also consider using a USB-C to DisplayPort cable if your display supports DisplayPort. Both options will work well for connecting to external monitors or projectors for your presentations.

Make sure to check that the cable you purchase is compatible with your Surface Laptop 7 and the display you intend to use.

    Hi Aieen Gasoc,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum.

Surface Laptop 7 design does not include a built-in HDMI port. It depends on USB-C ports with DisplayPort Alternate Mode for video output. For best option, you can consider using Microsoft USB-C to HDMI External Video Adapter (Model HFM-00001).

Otherwise, there are some alternative options for you:

    • USB-C to DisplayPort Adapter. If your external display supports DisplayPort, this is often more stable and supports higher refresh rates.
    • Surface Dock or USB-C Hub with HDMI. Multi-port hubs (Thunderbolt 4) can provide HDMI plus extra USB ports and charging. Look for hubs labeled “Designed for Surface” for best compatibility.
    • Wireless Option. Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter (requires Miracast support on the display). Ideal for cable-free setups but less reliable for presentations compared to wired.
