If you are unable to find your BitLocker recovery key on the Microsoft website, there are a few alternative methods you can try:

    1. Check Other Accounts: Ensure that you are logged into the correct Microsoft account that was used to encrypt the device. Sometimes, users have multiple accounts and may overlook the one associated with the encryption.
    2. Intune Company Portal: If your device is managed by an organization, you can access the BitLocker recovery key through the Intune Company Portal. Sign in to the Company Portal website or app, navigate to your devices, and select the locked device to retrieve the recovery key.
    3. Contact IT Support: If your device is part of a work or school environment, reach out to your IT support team. They may have access to the recovery keys stored in their systems.
    4. Check Physical Locations: Sometimes, recovery keys are saved in physical locations such as printed documents or USB drives. Check if you have saved it somewhere safe.
    5. Recovery Key from Helpdesk: If your organization has a helpdesk portal, you may be able to retrieve the recovery key from there. Look for a section related to BitLocker recovery.

If none of these methods work, you may need to consider professional help to recover your data, as BitLocker is designed to protect your information securely.

Without the BitLocker key you cannot access the encrypted drive.

If it is not in the account you use regularly did you ever use another account, either personal, work, school or university?

Without the correct recovery key you will need to clean the drive to use it again. Is the encrypted drive the system or a secondary drive?

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

The only official way to check it online is through https://account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey if it’s a personal account, or https://aka.ms/aadrecoverykey if you set up or used the device with a work or school account.

Aside from the Microsoft website, here are the other places you can check:

    • Any other Microsoft account you might have used
    • A USB flash drive where the key may have been saved
    • A printed copy or a text file on another device
    • Your work or school IT admin, if the device was managed by them.

    A few things to consider:

    • If the device was purchased second-hand, gifted, or preconfigured (for example, by a store or organization), the BitLocker key might be stored under the original owner’s Microsoft account.
    • If you set it up using a different Microsoft account in the past, try signing in with that account as well.
    • During setup, you might have the key saved to a local file or printed copy, instead of the online account. It's worth checking your saved files or printouts.

I really hope this information is helpful! Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

    Regards,

    John J.D.
