Got a used Microsoft surface Pro 7+ and i finally got all signed in and everything only to realize that the tablet was on 8% battery. After plugging it in i noticed it would not charge. I went through the normal troubleshooting steps only to realize it had not had a windows update in some time. I went ahead and began the windows update and it failed twice. Finally the surface died. So in conclusion, I have surface that wont turn on because it wont charge due to I assume needing a windows security update. But I can not update it without turning it on.... Help.

Hi Jordan Valentine,Welcome to Microsoft Q&A!

The problem is likely that the battery is so deeply discharged that the hardware's safety mechanism has kicked in, and the standard charging process won't initiate. Since your Surface has shutdown, our options are limited:

    1 - Basic/Hardware checks:

    • You should use the official Microsoft Surface Connect charger
    • You can test with another device/charger to make sure it's charging
    • Try plugging to a USB-C laptop charger (if your Surface Pro 7+ supports it)
    • Leave the Surface charged for 12-24 hours. Do not try to turn it on during this time.

    2 - Hard Reboot:

    • Unplug the Surface Connect charger from the tablet.
    • Press and hold the Power button for a full 30 seconds.
    • Replug the charger while still holding the power button.
    • Continue holding for another 10 seconds > Leave it for a day.

If, after all the steps above, the Surface is still completely dead and unresponsive, the issue is likely hardware: the charging port could be damaged, or the battery may have failed and can no longer hold a charge. In that case, your best chance is to contact Microsoft Support or a reputable third-party technical shop to seek professional repair.
