Hello,

I use Teams via my browser usually (Chrome) and have never had an issue until 2 days ago. What is the exact problem and how to I fix it?

I would appreciate support as soon as possible as I am presenting screen at a conference next week!

Thank you,

Marcus

It sounds like you're experiencing issues with screen sharing in Microsoft Teams, particularly in the Chrome browser. Here are some potential causes and resolutions:

    1. Camera and Permissions: Ensure that your browser has permission to access your camera and screen. You can check this in Chrome's settings under Privacy and Security > Site Settings > Camera and Screen Sharing.
    2. Browser Compatibility: While Teams works in browsers, using the desktop app can often provide a more stable experience. If possible, try downloading and using the Microsoft Teams desktop application.
    3. Hardware Acceleration: If your device does not support hardware acceleration, screen sharing may fail. You can check if hardware acceleration is enabled by going to chrome://gpu/ in Chrome. Look for any indications that say "Software only" or "hardware acceleration unavailable".
    4. Update Teams and Browser: Make sure that both your Teams application (if using the desktop version) and Chrome are up to date. Updates often include bug fixes that can resolve issues like screen sharing failures.
    5. Clear Cache and Cookies: Sometimes, clearing the browser's cache and cookies can resolve unexpected issues. You can do this in Chrome by going to Settings > Privacy and Security > Clear browsing data.
    6. Network Issues: Ensure that your internet connection is stable. A poor connection can lead to problems with video and screen sharing.

If these steps do not resolve your issue, you may want to check the Teams client logs for more information or contact your IT support for further assistance.

    Hello @Marcus Mcgrigor

    Welcome to the Q&A Community!

Thank you for contacting us regarding the issue you are experiencing with screen sharing in Microsoft Teams.

To accurately diagnose the root cause, please provide the following information:

    1. The operating system you are using (for example, Windows 10, Windows 11, macOS).
    2. Have you tried using another browser or incognito mode?
    3. Whether you are using Microsoft Teams exclusively through the web browser or if you also have the desktop application installed. Does the issue happen there as well?
    4. A description of when the error occurs. Does the message appear immediately after you click “Share” or after selecting a specific screen or window? A screenshot would be of great help!
    5. Any recent changes to your system, such as browser updates, operating system updates, or installation of new extensions.

Based on the information provided so far, here are the recommended steps to resolve the issue:

    Verify Browser Permissions

Open Chrome settings and navigate to Privacy and Security, then Site Settings.

Locate the Microsoft Teams site and ensure that permissions for Camera, Microphone, and Screen Sharing are enabled.

    Clear Cache and Cookies

Navigate to Chrome Settings, then Privacy and Security, and select Clear Browsing Data.

Remove cached images and files as well as cookies.

    Update Chrome and Teams

Ensure that Chrome is updated to the latest version. If you are using Teams on the web, refresh the session or sign out and sign back in.

Please confirm the requested details and let me know if any of the steps above resolve the issue. If the problem continues, I will provide advanced troubleshooting options.
