GetObject WMI Bug in Access 2510 (Build 19328.20244)

Attempting to call GetObject("winmgmts://./root/cimv2") from the Form_Activate event handler when opening a form using a Hyperlink SubAddress fails with an automation error "Unspecified error". Opening/activating the same form using DoCmd.OpenForm or clicking the form tab works without error. Calls to GetObject for Excel also work fine either way.

It fails for me when using the button with a hyperlink, but it works using the following (from a different form than the one with the Activate event handler).

2025-11-26T17:43:29.3033333+00:00 Hi. Sorry for the delay. I was able to see the problem after downloading your file. When I researched it, I discovered that WMI has a slight conflict with using hyperlink subaddresses. Here's the workaround I used to overcome the problem. I hope it works for you.

2025-11-26T17:51:30.4633333+00:00 Thank you for testing on your machine. There are certainly options for workarounds, but this worked in previous versions of Access. I'll need to revert to older versions to find out when it broke, but this is a recently introduced bug in Access.
