Stop getting Xbox ads in Edge

I'm receiving daily ads for Xbox and don't have one or want one. So how do I stop the daily ads. Microsoft support said to go in Settings and block but that option does not appear.

Xbox ads in Edge usually come from one of several mechanisms, so the fix depends on where they appear.

Here are the common causes and how to turn each off:

1. Microsoft Start feed on the New Tab page

If the ads show as cards mixed with news:

Open a new tab in Edge.
Click the gear icon (Page settings).
Under Show Content and Show promoted links, turn them off. This hides the news feed and promotional cards.

2. Personalized ads based on browsing activity

Go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Privacy.

Turn off Allow Microsoft to save browsing activity to personalize ads, search, shopping, and news: User's image

3. Shopping and coupon notifications

In Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Search and connected experiences > toggle off Save time and money with Shopping in Microsoft Edge:

4. Site notifications (push ads)

In Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Site permissions > All sites > Notifications and choose the Block from the dropdown menu.

"Show sponsored links" is where you say "Show promoted links" should be and it stays ON and is grayed out so that it can't be changed. The ads show up everytime I wake up the computer, on top of where I left off, even though I leave Edge minimized.

Thanks for the extra details!

The "Show sponsored links" and "Show promoted links" both refer to the same feature because it is just a wording change between Edge versions and regions.

Why is it greyed out?

That usually happens when Edge is managed by your organization. The policies that prevent you from turning it off, you can check if the policies exist in edge://policy (paste this in the search bar).

If these are set by an admin, then you have to notify admin because you can’t change it locally.

For the ads that pop up when you wake up your PC, those usually come from Windows Spotlight on the lock screen, not Edge. To turn them off:

Go to Settings > Personalization > Lock screen

Turn off Get fun facts, tips, tricks, and more on your lock screen

Still no resolution of problem. XBox ad appeared again today.
