    Hi @Santhosh Renikunta,

Thank you for posting your question to Microsoft Q&A Forum.

Microsoft Teams for Business does allow communication with external users, but there are some important details:

External Access (Federation): You can chat with users outside your organization if they are using Microsoft Teams or Skype for Business and external access is enabled by your admin.

Guest Access: You can invite external users as guests to your Teams environment, giving them access to channels and chats.

Email Groups: Direct chatting with an external group email address (like a distribution list outside Teams) is not supported. Teams chat is designed for individual accounts or guests, not for external group mail IDs.

If your goal is to collaborate with people outside your organization, the recommended approach is to add them as guests in a Team or use federated chat if their organization also uses Teams.

You can read through this article for reference: Add or invite people outside your org to a chat in Microsoft Teams

Your suggestion for not currently supported features such as connecting with external group mail IDs are greatly fantastic ideas for connecting multiple organizations and customers. While these options are not available today, we’re optimistic about future enhancements.

Because of that, I strongly recommend you share your feedback directly with the Microsoft engineering team via Microsoft Teams · Community → Send Feedback and describe your suggestion in detail. Your input plays a vital role in shaping the future of Microsoft products.

Microsoft Teams allows users to chat with external contacts, including those who do not have a Microsoft Teams account. However, the ability to chat with external group mail IDs specifically depends on whether those mail IDs are associated with a Microsoft 365 account. If the external group mail ID is part of a Microsoft 365 organization, users can communicate with them through Teams. For group mail IDs outside of Microsoft 365, the chat functionality may not be supported.

In summary, you can chat with external users who have a Microsoft 365 account, but not necessarily with all external group mail IDs.
