Azure Policy Blocking Resource Deployment in Multiple Regions for 'Azure for Students' Subscription

Hello Azure Community/Support Team,

I am attempting to deploy resources using an Azure for Students subscription, but I am repeatedly running into a deployment failure caused by a strict region restriction policy.

I have tried deploying a Storage Account (for Cloud Shell) and a Virtual Machine (VM), but both attempts failed in multiple major Azure regions.

The consistent error message I receive is: Code: RequestDisallowedByAzure Message: Resource '[Resource Name]' was disallowed by Azure: This policy maintains a set of best available regions where your subscription can deploy resources...

Could you please advise on which specific region(s) are currently whitelisted/allowed for resource deployment (especially Storage Accounts and VMs) under the highly restrictive policies often applied to the Azure for Students subscription type?

Knowing the correct region is essential for me to proceed with my learning and projects.

Thank you very much for your help!

If you are encountering deployment failures due to a policy that restricts the regions available for your Azure for Students subscription, it is essential to know that such subscriptions often have specific limitations on where resources can be deployed. Unfortunately, the provided context does not specify the exact regions that are whitelisted or allowed for the Azure for Students subscription type.

To resolve your issue, you can take the following steps:

    1. Check Azure Documentation: Review the Azure documentation for any updates on region availability for Azure for Students subscriptions.
    2. Contact Microsoft Support: Since the error message indicates a strict policy, it may be beneficial to contact Microsoft support directly to inquire about the specific regions that are currently allowed for your subscription.
    3. Select Alternative Regions: If possible, consider deploying your resources in different Azure regions that are typically available for general subscriptions, as this might help you bypass the restrictions.

For further assistance, you can also check the Azure community forums or support channels to see if others have faced similar issues and found solutions.

Hello Tochukwu Nnamdi-Nwaeze, you are using an Azure for Students subscription and encountering deployment failures when trying to create resources (like Storage Accounts and VMs). This indicates your subscription is restricted by a policy that only allows deployments in certain regions. Typically, you are restricted to five different regions, and these vary for each person.

    Verify using the below steps:

    https://portal.azure.com/#view/Microsoft_Azure_Policy/PolicyMenuBlade/~/Assignments

Click on assignment named Allowed resource deployment regions

    User's image

Examine Allowed locations Parameter value for list of regions, similar to below (regions in screenshot are different than yours):

    Error-Runbook

The regions shown in your Parameter value are the ones you are allowed to deploy resources to. Please try to create resources in one of these regions and let me know the results.
