getting message to provide custom primary password

When entering some information I'm asked to provide the custom primary password. It used to ask for my pin which I always gave. But now it's asking for the custom primary password. I don't ever recall creating one and I have tried different passwords that I might use but none work. I have looked up how to create one or change it. The problem is that the instructions say to go to edge://settings/passwords. and under sign in to chose custom primary password. I have looked for that and that option doesn't exist. Please advise how to fix this problem.

Thanks,

It seems that you are encountering an issue with the custom primary password in Microsoft Edge. If you are being prompted for a custom primary password that you do not recall creating, here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:

    1. Check for Updates: Ensure that your Microsoft Edge browser is up to date. Sometimes, issues can arise from using an outdated version of the browser.
    2. Reset Passwords: If you have access to your Microsoft account, you can try resetting your password through the Microsoft account recovery options. This may help if the custom primary password is linked to your account.
    3. Clear Browser Data: Clearing your browser's cache and cookies may resolve issues related to saved passwords and prompts. You can do this by going to edge://settings/clearBrowserData.
    4. Check Password Settings: Although you mentioned that the option for a custom primary password does not exist under edge://settings/passwords, it might be worth revisiting this section to ensure you are looking in the right place. Sometimes, settings can be updated or moved in newer versions of the browser.
    5. Contact Support: If none of the above steps work, consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for further assistance. They may be able to provide specific guidance based on your account and settings.

If you continue to have trouble, it may be helpful to gather any error messages or prompts you see, as this information can assist support in diagnosing the issue.

    Hi Steven,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum. I understand that you keep getting message to provide custom primary password. You can go to edge://settings/autofill/passwords/settings and find the option in here. If your issue persists, please try to back up all your Edge data, you can refer to this: How to back up your Microsoft Edge favorites, passwords, and more. Then, try to create a new profile and use it as a temporary workaround until the new Edge update.

Also, please follow this to send feedback for Microsoft about this: Send feedback to Microsoft with the Feedback Hub app. I really sorry for your inconvenience and thanks for your understanding. For further support, please go to Contact Support
