It sounds like you are experiencing a keyboard issue during the lock screen phase of your computer startup. This can sometimes occur due to various reasons, including driver issues or system settings. Here are a few suggestions that might help resolve the problem:

    1. Check Keyboard Connection: Ensure that your keyboard is properly connected. If it’s a USB keyboard, try plugging it into a different USB port.
    2. Update Keyboard Drivers: Sometimes, outdated drivers can cause issues. You can check for updates in the Device Manager:
      • Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
      • Expand the Keyboards section, right-click on your keyboard device, and select Update driver.
    3. Disable Fast Startup: Fast Startup can sometimes lead to issues during boot. You can disable it by:
      • Going to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
      • Click on Change settings that are currently unavailable and uncheck Turn on fast startup.
    4. Run Keyboard Troubleshooter: Windows has a built-in troubleshooter that can help identify and fix keyboard issues:
      • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Keyboard.
    5. Check for Windows Updates: Ensure that your system is up to date, as updates can fix bugs and improve performance.
      • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.

If the problem persists after trying these steps, consider checking the event logs for any errors that might provide more insight into the issue.

    Hi Bob,

Thank you for posting on the Microsoft Q&A Forum and sharing the details. I understand that you're encountering the issue where your keyboard freezes at the Lock screen after powering on, but works fine after a restart.

Instead of restarting your computer, you can click the Ease of Access icon on the Lock screen and use the On-Screen Keyboard to sign in.

Then you can try the steps below to resolve this issue:

    • Go to Control Panel → Power Options → Choose what the power buttons do
    • Click Change settings that are currently unavailable
    • Uncheck Turn on fast startup
    • Save changes and shut down your PC to test.

I look forward to receiving your update. Let me know if you need further assistance, feel free to ask me by clicking "Add Comment" or "Add Answer" if you cannot add comment so your response will be visible. Thanks for your effort.
