Microsoft Edge will not open

If Microsoft Edge is not opening despite your attempts to repair and reinstall it, and it shows in the tray but does not open a window, this could be a known issue. Some users have reported that Microsoft Edge fails to launch and this issue persists through reboots and isn't resolved with updates. Here are a few steps you can try:

1. Check for Windows Updates: Ensure that your Windows is up-to-date, as updates can sometimes resolve issues with applications.
2. File a Bug: If the problem continues, consider filing a bug report through the Feedback Hub app under the category Install and Update > Downloading, installing, and configuring Windows Update. This helps Microsoft investigate the issue further.
3. Reflash the Device: If you're using a HoloLens or similar device, reflashing might be necessary, but this is more specific to that hardware.

Unfortunately, there are currently no known workarounds for this specific issue if it persists after trying the above steps.

First, open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc. Under the Processes tab, look for any Microsoft Edge instances and end all Edge-related tasks. After that, try reopening Edge.

If the issue persists, clear Edge user data because corrupted data can prevent Edge from launching. Press Win + R and type %localappdata%\Microsoft\Edge\User Data. Rename the folder named Default to Default.old, then restart Edge. This will create a fresh profile.

You can also reset Edge through Settings. Press Win + I, go to Apps, then Installed apps. Find Microsoft Edge, click Modify, and choose Repair. This requires an internet connection.

Next, check compatibility settings. Right-click the Microsoft Edge shortcut and select Properties. Go to the Compatibility tab and make sure the option to run the program in compatibility mode is unchecked.

If repair doesn’t work, reinstall Edge completely. Download the latest installer from the official Microsoft Edge website, uninstall Edge through Settings > Apps, and then reinstall using the downloaded installer.
