In the last week or two, my login and avatar photo have been changed. My login name went from my nickname to my first and last name, and the avatar went from the photo of my dog I was using, to the generic "person" avatar. How does this happen?

Changes to your username and avatar picture can occur for several reasons. If your login name has changed from a nickname to your first and last name, it may be due to an update in your organization's user profile settings or a change made by an administrator in Microsoft Entra ID. It's common for organizations to enforce policies that require the use of legal names for professional accounts.

As for the avatar picture reverting to a generic "person" avatar, this can happen if the image associated with your profile was removed or if there was an issue with the service that manages profile pictures. In Microsoft Entra ID, for example, if no image has been added, the user's initials or a default avatar will appear instead.

If you want to restore your previous settings, you can usually do so by accessing your profile settings in the respective application or service and updating your username and profile picture accordingly. If you encounter issues, it may be helpful to contact your IT support or administrator for assistance.

Well, this is a personal account, so I am my own IT administrator and support. I already have re-added my profile picture, and will go back to my nickname. I wonder if, since I do use other email clients in my Linux boot (I use dual boot Win and Linux) possibly using my first and last name there migrated up into my Microsoft account?
