I recently finished a paper in word. I set autosave, then closed it. I cannot find the paper now, although I have a Blue Triangle with a Blue Exclamation Point on the Recent section.

The Blue Triangle with a Blue Exclamation Point in Word typically indicates that there is a problem with the document, such as it being unsaved or having issues related to AutoRecover. Here are some steps you can take to try to recover your document:

    1. Check AutoRecover Files: Open Word and go to File > Info > Manage Document > Recover Unsaved Documents. This will show you any unsaved documents that Word has automatically saved.
    2. Search for Temporary Files: You can also search for temporary files that Word may have created. Look in the following locations:
      • C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word
      • C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\UnsavedFiles Replace <UserName> with your actual username.
    3. Check the Recycle Bin: Sometimes, documents may accidentally be deleted. Check your Recycle Bin to see if your document is there.
    4. Restart Word: Close Word completely and then reopen it. Sometimes, this can trigger Word to recover the document automatically.

If these steps do not help, you may need to troubleshoot further to determine if the document is corrupted or if there is another underlying issue with Word itself.

    Hi Householder, Stephanie Anne

Thank you for reaching out to the Q&A Forum.

Since you mentioned that AutoSave was turned on, I assume you were using OneDrive and the AutoSave switch was enabled. Could you please check if the file is available on Word Online? This will confirm if the document was saved to the cloud. If it is saved in the cloud, please try opening it again in the Word desktop app.

On the other hand, have you tried clicking on the blue triangle with the exclamation point in Word? Does it show any options such as Save a Copy? If yes, please click on it and save the file to a known location.

Please try these steps and let me know the outcome. Your feedback will help us assist you further.
