When I write e-mails i Norwegian, New Outlook keeps automatically capitalizing the word "i". It makes sense in English, but "i" is a preposition in Norwegian. This does not happen in Word.

How do I disable the automatic capitalization of "i" in New Outlook?

    Hi @Vegard

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

If you want to disable automatic capitalization in Outlook, please follow these steps:

    1. In the Message tab, click the small arrow in the corner to open additional options.
      User's image
    2. Select Editor and then choose Editor Settings.  User's image
    3. Turn off Enable AutoCorrect and Enable Auto Capitalization.  User's image

For now you will be able to type the "i" without it being capitalize. But Outlook will no longer automatically correct common typos (e.g., “teh” → “the”). It won’t automatically capitalize the first letter of sentences or proper nouns. So You’ll need to manually fix spelling mistakes and capitalization errors. Grammar suggestions from the Editor may still appear, but they won’t auto-fix.

Thank you again for your time and understanding. While this may not resolve the issue immediately, I’d like to gather more details if needed so I can assist you more effectively.

I truly appreciate your patience, and I’m here to help. Looking forward to your response!

To disable the automatic capitalization of the word "i" in Outlook, you can adjust the AutoCorrect settings. Here’s how you can do it:

    1. Open Outlook and go to File > Options.
    2. In the Options window, select Mail from the left sidebar.
    3. Click on the Spelling and Autocorrect button.
    4. In the Editor Options window, select Proofing.
    5. Click on AutoCorrect Options.
    6. In the AutoCorrect tab, you can find the option to modify the settings for capitalization. You can add exceptions for specific words like "i" by entering it in the list of exceptions.
    7. Make sure to deselect any options that automatically capitalize the first letter of sentences if it affects the word "i".
    8. Click OK to save your changes.

This should help prevent Outlook from automatically capitalizing "i" when you are writing in Norwegian.
