Hi, I have an issue that happens with some computers and not others and can't find any setting that would suggest on how to change to our prefered method.

Basicaly, we are using Powerpoint and in that powerpoint we have Hyperlinked certain words to open another powerpoint presentation. However, on some of our laptops once you have gone into presentation mode on the initial presentation, it will open the hyperlinked powerpoints also in presentation mode. This is good. This is how we want it.

However, on some laptops, even when the initial powerpoint is in presentation mode, it will only open the hyperlinked powerpoints as if you were clicking on the file. it wont open them in show mode. I dont want to save the files as a powerpoint show mode file, as if something goes wrong, i still want to be able to edit the hyperlinked file, but i need to figure out how to fix the fact that on some of our computers they will not open in full screen presentation mode once clicked on.

All of our machines are the same model, so im assuming its a local powerpoint setting, however i cannot find anything.

It seems like you're experiencing inconsistent behavior with how hyperlinks to other PowerPoint presentations are opening on different laptops. This issue can often be attributed to settings within PowerPoint or the operating system. Here are a few suggestions to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

    1. PowerPoint Options: Check the PowerPoint options on the laptops where the hyperlinks do not open in presentation mode. Go to File > Options > Advanced and look for settings related to hyperlink behavior. Ensure that there are no settings that might restrict the opening of linked presentations in full-screen mode.
    2. Display Settings: Sometimes, display settings can affect how presentations are shown. Ensure that the display settings (like resolution and multiple displays) are consistent across all laptops. You can check this in Control Panel > Display.
    3. PowerPoint Version: Ensure that all laptops are running the same version of PowerPoint. Differences in versions can lead to variations in functionality.
    4. Add-ins and Macros: Check if there are any add-ins or macros enabled on the laptops that are causing this behavior. Sometimes, third-party add-ins can interfere with normal operations.
    5. Repair Office: If the issue persists, consider repairing the Office installation on the affected laptops. This can resolve any underlying issues with the software that might be causing the problem.
    6. Testing: As a temporary workaround, you could create a macro that forces the linked presentation to open in full-screen mode, but this would require some VBA knowledge.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, it may be beneficial to consult with your IT department or Microsoft support for further assistance.

    Dear @GCCEC

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Are the product information and PowerPoint versions the same on all machines?

Please ensure that all PowerPoint apps have the same version (if possible, update to the latest version).

Also, try an online repair and reinstall Office on the affected machines. Repair an Office application - Microsoft Support

On the computers where that issue occurs, have you tried creating a different PowerPoint file, inserting a hyperlink, and then clicking on it to see if the other PowerPoint file appears in edit mode or presentation mode?

Is that file a shared file or what? Are all the other machines shared this file?

If so, is the hyperlink you inserted located on the C: drive or is it a SharePoint link? (If the link is to your C: drive, how can the other shared machines open it?)

I created a PowerPoint file A, and inserted a hyperlink (SharePoint link) which is the link of PowerPoint file B. I would open that PowerPoint file B on the browser, copy the URL and change the &action=edit&mobileredirect=true to &action=embedview. When I click on the hyperlink, it jumps to the browser and is in a mode like the one below.  User's image

May I ask that you want the hyperlinked PowerPoint file to open in presentation mode in the browser or in the app?

    Looking forward to your reply!

I notice you're under the impression that PowerPoint Show (.ppsx) files can't be edited. They can by edited by using File>Open in PowerPoint. This sidesteps that automatic opening in Slideshow mode that a double-click creates. The simplest solution may be to go ahead and save in .ppsx format.
