hi

my environment is nodes of the deployed cluster running on a hyper-v on a vmware... yes. very slow. but works just fine otherwise.

now when i try to upgrade from 2510 to 2511 it stops right here, moves nowhere:

what logs to check? it would be very helpful to have a detailed error message and/or progress 'bar' that says where the things are that we're doing on the portal.

should i somehow stop this, and apply the updates via portal-WAC? it may will give more detailed information on what's happening.

thanks

my all time favorite "error message" is: contact support. not an error code, not a single reason whatsoever.

    Hello @GabeCz

I understand you're encountering difficulties upgrading from version 2510 to 2511, particularly with the process getting stuck at 100% during the download. Here are some steps you might consider to address this issue:

    1. Check logs: Start by checking the logs on the nodes where the upgrade is taking place. You can look for any errors or warnings that might indicate what's causing the download to hang. Logs related to the solution update process can usually be found in the system event log or specific logs designated for your environment.
    2. Using the Azure Portal: Since you mentioned possibly applying updates via the Azure Portal (WAC), this is a good direction. The Portal often provides more detailed information about the update status and errors. Try initiating the upgrade from there if the current process seems stuck.
    3. Stopping the update process: If it’s not progressing, you may need to stop the current update process. Use the command you typically would for rollback or stopping updates in Azure Stack. This can help you reset the process and then you can try applying the updates again.
    4. Manual Update Installation: If automatic downloads are continuously failing, consider downloading the update package manually and applying it. This method can sometimes bypass issues with the update service and provide a smoother upgrade experience.
    5. HCI Prerequisites: Ensure your environment meets all prerequisites for the new update, like driver compatibilities or firmware updates, which could affect the upgrade.
    6. Feedback for Improvement: It’s definitely worth noting that having better progress indicators or error codes would help users like yourself in the future!

If you're still having difficulties or the issue persists, it might be necessary to contact support for a deeper investigation.

Hope this helps! If issue persists further, I would appreciate it if you could provide more details on:

    • What specific logs have you checked so far?
    • Have you tried restarting the update process or stopping it?
    • Are all your nodes fully updated to the last cumulative updates before starting this upgrade?
    • Can you confirm your internet connectivity status as it may impact the download process?

    Thanks,
    Manish Deshpande.
