To migrate mailboxes, OneDrive, and SharePoint site data from one tenant to another in Microsoft 365, you will need to ensure that you have the appropriate licenses and tools in place. Here are the basic requirements:

    Licensing Requirements:

    1. Cross-Tenant User Data Migration Licenses: You need to purchase a per-user license for cross-tenant migrations. This license is a one-time fee and can be assigned either on the source or target user object. It covers both mailbox and OneDrive migrations.
      • This add-on is available for various Microsoft 365 subscription plans, including:
        • Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Standard, and Premium
        • Microsoft 365 F1/F3/E3/E5
        • Office 365 F3/E1/E3/E5
        • Exchange Online
        • SharePoint in Microsoft 365
        • OneDrive for Business
    2. Licensing Verification: Ensure that you have verified the ability to purchase these licenses before proceeding with the migration, as migrations will fail without the proper licenses assigned.

    Tools Required:

    • Microsoft SharePoint Online PowerShell: Ensure you have the latest version installed to manage the migration of SharePoint sites. You can download it from the official Microsoft Download Center.

    Additional Considerations:

    • Confirm that the source accounts (for both OneDrive and SharePoint) are set to Read/Write mode, as Read-only settings will cause migrations to fail.
    • Ensure that you do not create any target SharePoint sites before migration, as existing sites cannot be overwritten or merged.

By following these guidelines and ensuring you have the necessary licenses, you can proceed with your migration using native tools effectively.

    Hello @Arasananthan Narasimman,

Thank you for your question and for sharing the details of your migration plan.

Based on Microsoft’s official documentation, please refer to this article for a comprehensive overview: Cross-tenant SharePoint migration

Based on my knowledge, if you plan to migrate SharePoint sites using Microsoft’s native tools, the best approach is to work directly with Microsoft technical support. They can ensure the migration process is as smooth as possible and confirm any licensing requirements specific to your scenario.

In most cases, smaller tenants will not incur additional costs for SharePoint migration. However, for organizations with more than 500 users, an Enterprise Agreement may be required.

For this reason, I recommend not purchasing any add-ons upfront. Instead, initiate the migration request with Microsoft support and follow their guidance. If they determine that additional licenses or add-ons are necessary, you can proceed with purchasing them at that time.

This approach will help avoid unnecessary costs and ensure compliance with Microsoft’s requirements.

To open a support ticket: Sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, go to "Help & Support" at the right bottom, describe your issue (e.g., “Cross-tenant SharePoint migration”), and submit the request.

If you need assistance contacting Microsoft support or preparing for the migration, please let me know, I’m happy to help.

    Best regards,
