My account was hacked, but I can still access my account. Even though the email address is the hacker's, they can use my own password, but I can't change the email address back to mine, and the email address the hacker used is a temporary email address.

If your Microsoft account has been hacked and the email address has been changed to one that you do not recognize, it's crucial to take immediate action to secure your account. Here are the steps you should follow:

    1. Change Your Password: Since you still have access to your account, change your password immediately to prevent the hacker from using your credentials.
    2. Secure Your Account: Follow the steps to secure your account, which may include enabling multi-factor authentication (MFA) if you haven't done so already. This adds an extra layer of security.
    3. Check Account Recovery Options: Review your account recovery options and ensure that they are set to your own information. This includes verifying your phone number and any alternate email addresses.
    4. Contact Microsoft Support: If you are unable to change the email address back to yours, contact Microsoft Support for assistance. They can help you regain control of your account and revert any unauthorized changes.
    5. Monitor Account Activity: Keep an eye on your account activity for any suspicious actions. If you notice anything unusual, report it to Microsoft.
    6. Review Security Settings: After regaining control, review your security settings and update them as necessary to prevent future breaches.

Taking these steps can help you secure your account and mitigate any potential damage caused by the hacker.

Hello T CH, thanks for posting this in our community.

Since the hacker changed the email but you still have access, act fast. First, sign in to your Microsoft account at https://account.microsoft.com and go to Security > Advanced Security Options. Change your password to a strong, unique one that the hacker doesn’t know, using a mix of uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols. After that, sign out of all devices by selecting “Sign out everywhere” in the same security settings to remove the hacker’s access.

Next, remove the hacker’s email. You can’t directly change the primary alias if the hacker set it, but you can go to Your Info > Manage how you sign in to Microsoft. Add your original email address (or a new secure one) as an alias, set your email as the primary alias, and remove the hacker’s temporary email from the list. If the hacker’s email is set as primary and you can’t change it, Microsoft will require identity verification before allowing changes.

If you can’t remove the hacker’s email, go to https://account.live.com/acsr and fill out the Account Recovery Form. Provide as much information as possible, such as old passwords, Xbox Gamertag, and billing info. Microsoft will review your request and help restore your original email as the primary alias.

    Kind regards,

    John Oli
