I am writing because I am unable to upgrade my brand-new HP Omnibook from Windows 11 Home to Windows 11 Pro, despite having purchased a valid Windows 11 Pro license through the Microsoft Store.

I have followed all recommended steps, including entering the product key manually, signing out and back into my Microsoft account, and restarting the device multiple times. I have also attempted all common troubleshooting methods found in Microsoft’s documentation, but the upgrade still fails to complete.

This issue is extremely frustrating, especially considering that everything is new and the upgrade was purchased directly from Microsoft. I would appreciate your assistance in resolving this as soon as possible.

Please let me know what additional information you need from me (error messages, logs, screenshots, device details, etc.) so we can move forward.

Thank you in advance for your help

To upgrade from Windows 11 Home to Windows 11 Pro, ensure that you have followed the correct steps. Since you mentioned that you have already purchased a valid Windows 11 Pro license through the Microsoft Store and attempted to enter the product key manually, here are some additional troubleshooting steps you can consider:

    1. Check for Windows Updates: Ensure that your Windows 11 Home is fully updated. Sometimes, pending updates can interfere with the upgrade process.
    2. Use the Activation Troubleshooter: Go to Settings > Update & Security > Activation and run the troubleshooter to see if it can identify and fix any issues.
    3. Verify Product Key: Double-check that the product key you entered is correct and corresponds to the Windows 11 Pro edition.
    4. Clean Boot: Perform a clean boot of your system to eliminate any software conflicts that might be preventing the upgrade.
    5. Reinstall Microsoft Store: If the issue persists, consider reinstalling the Microsoft Store app, as it may help resolve any underlying issues with the purchase.
    6. Contact Microsoft Support: Since you purchased the license directly from Microsoft, reaching out to their support may provide you with specific assistance tailored to your situation.

If you continue to experience issues, providing error messages or logs can help in diagnosing the problem further.

Since the license was bought directly through your Store and is linked to my Microsoft account, I expected the upgrade to apply automatically. This situation is very frustrating, and I would appreciate prompt assistance in resolving it.

Please let me know what additional information you need from me so we can fix this issue as soon as possible.

Try using the generic Pro key method to perform the upgrade to Windows 11 Pro.

Important - disconnect totally from the Internet

Open the Settings App (Gear icon on your Start Menu)

Go to Update and Security - Activation

    Click Change Product key

Enter this generic product key: VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T

    When prompted, click 'Activate Product'

If the above does not work first time, restart your PC and try again.

Note the generic key will cause the home edition to upgrade to the Pro edition, then your own legal licence will activate automatically after you restart (not shut down) your PC
