Thank you, this has been resolved. it was an issue where the database engine could not detect the security.dll. The installer I had was very old and I needed one with service pack 3.
SQL server 2014 for Calypso
I am trying to install SQL server as part of a program package ZEISS Calypso. I get though the install but it fails to start the service. I can not start it manually. I have made sure the TLS 1.2 and the .NET 3.5 are enabled. This is on Windows 10 Enterprise verrsion 22H2.

Q&A Assist2025-12-04T16:35:58.27+00:00 AI generated content. This question contains an answer created with AI from Q&A Assist. Learn moreIf you are unable to start the SQL Server service after installation, it could be due to several reasons. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can take:
- Check the Event Logs: Look for specific error messages in the Windows Application and System logs that could provide insight into why the service is failing to start.
- Service Account Permissions: Ensure that the service account configured for SQL Server has the necessary permissions. You can check the effective access of the SQL Server service account by navigating to the SQL Server installation folder, right-clicking on it, and checking the Security settings.
- Protocols: Verify that the required network protocols are enabled. If all network protocols are disabled, SQL Server will not start. You can enable protocols using SQL Server Configuration Manager.
- TLS Settings: Since you mentioned that TLS 1.2 is enabled, ensure that TLS 1.0 or TLS 1.1 is not disabled, as some older versions of SQL Server may require them during installation or startup.
- Reinstall SQL Server: If the above steps do not resolve the issue, consider reinstalling SQL Server, ensuring that all prerequisites are met and that you are using a version that supports TLS 1.2.
If you continue to experience issues, you may want to consult the SQL Server documentation for more detailed troubleshooting steps.
