To resolve issues with conflicting personal and business Microsoft accounts, you can follow these steps:

    1. Sign Out: Start by signing out of all Microsoft accounts. You can do this by visiting the Microsoft account sign-out page and ensuring that you are completely logged out.
    2. Clear Browser Cache: If you're using a web browser, clear the cache and cookies to remove any stored login information that might be causing conflicts.
    3. Use Private Browsing: Open a private or incognito browsing session and try signing in to your Teams app using your business account. This can help avoid any cached credentials from interfering.
    4. Contact Support: If the issue persists, you may need to contact Microsoft support for further assistance. Since you have business accounts, you can access support through the Microsoft 365 admin center. Here’s how:
      • Go to the admin center at https://admin.cloud.microsoft.
      • Select Help & support on the bottom right side of the page.
      • Type your question or issue and follow the prompts to contact support.
    5. Guidance from Microsoft Representative: You can also reach out to your Microsoft representative for personalized guidance on managing your accounts and resolving conflicts.

These steps should help you manage your accounts more effectively and get your Teams app working again.

    Hi @Martin Spearing,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum. I can understand how inconvenient it is to be mixed up between personal and business account.

Personal Microsoft accounts and Microsoft 365 work or school accounts are separate identity types and can’t be merged, so if both share the same email address, Windows and apps may prompt “Which account do you want to use?” and often default to personal, blocking business sign-in. The new Teams app supports both account types in one interface if the correct edition is installed and cached sign-in data is clean. When Teams repeatedly opens with the personal account, it’s usually due to cached credentials or having the wrong edition installed.

Here are some steps that often help (try one after another):

1/ Install/confirm the correct Teams app (business):

    • Go to Download Teams and choose Teams for work or school (new Teams). On Windows 11, you can also get it from Microsoft Store. This edition supports multiple accounts and proper business sign‑in.
    • Download Microsoft Teams for Windows

2/ Sign out of the personal account in Teams and sign in with business:

    • In Teams, select your profile > Sign out, then choose Sign in and pick Work or school account when prompted. If you see “Which account do you want to use?”, select Work or school (not Personal).

    3/ Clear Teams cache:

You can follow the instruction here: Clear the Teams client cache

4/ If you prefer to talk to someone:

You can create a support ticket by sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center following steps from this link: Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn to raise a support ticket from admin center or calling the phone support to contact Microsoft Support: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support.

If you are not an admin, you can contact your admin to contact Microsoft support. You can look for the way to find your admin through this link: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support.

I hope this information is helpful. Please follow these steps and let me know if it works for you. If not, we can work together to resolve this.

Thank you for your patience and your understanding. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to share them in the comments on this post so I can continue to support you.

I look forward to continuing the conversation.
