Right Alt+Shift not switching language both ways after KB5070311

After installing KB5070311 (Build 26200.7309), Right Alt + Shift switches only from English to Arabic, but not back from Arabic to English.

Left Alt + Shift works fine. Issue reproduced on both Lenovo and HP laptops.

Bug introduced in this update.

The issue persists even after restarting the system and resetting the keyboard settings.

Please fix in next build.

    Hi @Karim Adel Mohamed Abdelsalam

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Regarding your issue, I understand that this shortcut is important for quickly switching between your English and Arabic layouts, and it's disruptive when it only works one way.

Here are a few steps you can try:

    1. Use alternative shortcuts
      • Press Win + Spacebar or Win + Shift + Spacebar to cycle input languages.
    2. Rollback update
      • If this update was optional and the issue blocks your workflow, uninstall KB5070311 via:  Settings > Windows Update > Update history > Uninstall updates until a fix is released.

As other user have reported the same behavior after installing KB5070311 (Build 26200.7309) Right Alt + Shift only switches from English to Arabic but not back.

Alt-Gr + Shift no longer switches keyboard language back to English after Windows 11 update.

I highly suggest submitting feedback to Microsoft through Feedback Hub, since this issue hasn’t been widely reported yet. The more users report the same problem, the faster the Windows team can acknowledge it and prioritize a fix in a future update.

    • Press Win + F or search for Feedback Hub in Start.
    • Sign in with your Microsoft account.
    • Category: Input and Language > Keyboard and language switching
    • Include: Right Alt + Shift only toggles one direction (English> Arabic) after KB5070311 Build 26200.7309. You can also attach a short report video if possible.

For more details, please refer to: Send feedback to Microsoft with the Feedback Hub app

Sharing feedback through this tool ensures your voice is heard by the product team working on these features.

I apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding and feedback.

    Hi karim,

Thank you for sharing your question. I understand after you installed KB5070311 (Build 26200.7309), the Right Alt + Shift shortcut only goes from English to Arabic, but not back. Left Alt + Shift works okay, though. I am here to help.

Looks like this is a known problem with KB5070311, which is an optional test update for Windows 11 (versions 24H2 and 25H2). The update tweaks some stuff, and some people are having issues with language shortcuts, especially with Right Alt (AltGr). It seems the switch only goes one way.

Here’s what you can do while we wait for Microsoft to fix this:

    Try other shortcuts

Hit Windows + Spacebar to swap languages. This should still work.

    Change the key combo

Go to Settings > Time & Language > Typing > Advanced keyboard settings > Language bar options > Advanced Key Settings. See what hotkeys are set for “Switch Input Language” and “Switch Keyboard Layout.” If Right Alt + Shift is there, try switching it to Left Alt + Shift or Ctrl + Shift, or just make custom shortcuts for each language.

    Undo KB5070311

Since it’s just a test update, you can get rid of it by going to Settings > Windows Update > Update history > Uninstall updates. This should bring things back to normal until Microsoft sorts the problem out in a future update.

Keep an eye out for new updates

Microsoft usually fixes these kinds of problems in the next update. Just keep Windows Update on and install the next regular update when it shows up.

    I hope this helps.

    Best Regards, Noel
