Mouse pointer always stuck top left corner of screen (Surface Book 2)

I have only noticed this issue in the last few months and research has shown this is occurring for other users also, so I'm making my own post.

The mouse cursor always stays pinned at the top left, with an external mouse plugged in. Moving the external mouse, sees the cursor in the top left flicker - with the mouse cursor still moving, appearing as two mouse cursors. Its like oscillating between the pinned top left and the active mouse inputs from the external mouse.

Unplugging the external mouse and using only the trackpad, the cursor will not move at all.

Locking the computer with (Win+L) and then logging in again resolves the issue, confirming this is a Windows OS software issue.

The trackpad and external mouse then both work fine, until it happens again.

I even formatted and freshly loaded W11, and after applying updates - it occurs after fully patching W11.

Microsoft, this is super annoying. I was hoping to keep using my SB2 for a long time, but this is really killing it.User's image

    Hello Adam STONE,

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum. It's my pleasure to help you today.

I understand that it is very annoying when your mouse cursor keeps being stuck in the corner. Per what you've described, the cause of this might come from the trackpad itself, since it doesn't move when you remove the external mouse. In this case, could you please try to disable the trackpad and use only the external mouse to see if the issue persists?

    • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad
    • Switch it to "Off".

There is another way to try to fix it for now is to remove the touchpad driver from your PC and install it again. Please follow these steps:

    • Type "Device Manager" in the search bar and press Enter.
    • Find your Touchpad driver in the list.
    • Right click and choose "Uninstall driver"
    • Restart your computer and let the OS reinstall the driver on its own.

Please let me know if there are any updates.
