How to recover permanently deleted emails from Hotmail account following remote access scam?

I was the victim of a scam yesterday where the caller got me to install Anydesk remote access software on both my phone and laptop under the guise of IP address data breach. Through this process they got me to buy Apple gift cards through my Zip and Afterpay accounts to counteract the purchases that the "hackers" had made. Once complete, and since they had remote access to my email account, they then deleted the confirmation emails I received in my Hotmail account and then permanently deleted those emails from the Deleted Emails Inbox. Apple has advised me that I am not able to get my money back unless I have the identifying information from those confirmation emails. Is there any way that I am able to recover those permanently deleted emails?

To recover permanently deleted emails from a Hotmail account (now Outlook.com), you can follow these steps:

    1. Check the Recoverable Items Folder: When you delete an email from your Deleted Items folder, it is moved to the Recoverable Items folder. You can access this folder to see if your emails are still there.
      • Go to the Deleted Items folder in your Outlook account.
      • Look for an option that says "Recover deleted items" or similar. This option may vary based on the version of Outlook you are using.
      • Select the emails you want to recover and restore them.
    2. Time Limit: Keep in mind that emails in the Recoverable Items folder are typically retained for a limited time (usually 30 days) after deletion. If it has been longer than this, recovery may not be possible through standard methods.
    3. Contact Microsoft Support: If you cannot find your emails in the Recoverable Items folder, consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for assistance. They may have additional tools or options to help recover your emails, especially if you explain the situation regarding the scam.

Unfortunately, if the emails are not recoverable through these methods, it may not be possible to retrieve them. It's essential to act quickly to maximize your chances of recovery.

Hello, I’m Virginia a fellow Windows user.

If the emails have been deleted from the trash folder then they’re gone for good, only option would be to check the online version of the account to see if they’re also saved in some All Mail or Archive folder or to check another device while offline to see if that device hasn’t synced the email yet.

I doubt Microsoft can recover the emails but you can ask them.

Also check the payment method for any receipt.

I’d also recommend uninstalling AnyDesk as until you do they scammers will still have access to your PC, I’d also assume your passwords have been compromised so change every account’s password & turn on 2 factor authentication for them.
