I was asked to log on to my Microsoft account by creating an outlook-account.

When I created this: <Mod remove PII> @outlook.com from my gmail: <Mod remove PII> @gmail.com - Microsoft changed it to: <Mod mask PII> outlook_xxxxxxxxxx @outlook.com - and this does not allow me to acces my emails.

What to do? Please help, I've spend hours on this issue without any luck.

Kind regards,

Sara

It seems that you are experiencing issues with your Outlook account being automatically generated and not allowing you to access your emails. Here are some steps you can take to resolve this issue:

    1. Check Account Settings: Ensure that you are logging in with the correct email address and password. Sometimes, the account may have been created with a different email than you intended.
    2. Use Sign-in Assistance: If you are unsure about which Microsoft account is linked to your Outlook account, you can use the sign-in assistance flow provided by Microsoft to identify the linked account.
    3. Reset Password: If you suspect that the account was created incorrectly, you may want to try resetting the password for the Outlook account that was generated. This can sometimes resolve access issues.
    4. Contact Support: If you continue to have problems, consider reaching out to Microsoft support for assistance. They can help you recover your account or clarify any issues with the account creation process.
    5. Check for Multiple Accounts: If you have multiple Microsoft accounts, ensure that you are not mixing them up. Each account will have its own set of emails and settings.

These steps should help you regain access to your emails. If the problem persists, further assistance from Microsoft support may be necessary.

Hi Sara, I can see how that would feel confusing when you just want to use your Gmail and suddenly end up with a new Outlook address.

What happened is that Microsoft created a separate Outlook.com account instead of simply linking your Gmail as a sign-in alias.

This means your Gmail and the new Outlook address are now two different accounts, which is why you can’t access your Gmail emails through the new one.

The easiest fix is to sign in at http://account.microsoft.com/ using your Gmail credentials and check if that account exists.

If it does, go to Your Info then click Manage how you sign in to Microsoft and make sure Gmail is set as your primary alias.

You can remove the Outlook address if you don’t need it.

If you accidentally created a completely new account, you’ll need to sign out and log back in with Gmail or use the account recovery option.

Quick question: when you try to sign in with Gmail, does it let you in, or does it only accept the Outlook address?

That will tell us which path to take next.

    Regards,
    Aron
