    Actually, just the opposite. Both macOS & Office need to be fully updated. You haven't included the Version Numbers of either so that can't be verified but currently supported e3ditions of macOS are:

    • Sonoma [presently v14.8.2]
    • Sequoia [presently v15.7.2]
    • Tahoe [v26.1]

    Office should be at v16.103 or later depending on which update channel is used.

    Do you mean that Dark Mode "didn't work" at all or that using it did not correct the UI issue?
