Lately i booted up windows in my laptop after a couple of months of not doing so (using another os) and it took the liberty to modify my boot order, and also turned off and tried to http boot in the middle of the night a couple times. Is that normal?. Isn't that something unacceptable, anti-competitive, anti-consumer and virus-like?

Thanks for reaching out. Did your laptop install a Windows or firmware update before you saw the boot changes?

Windows updates sometimes adjust the boot manager so the system starts correctly with Secure Boot, and network boot options like HTTP boot can activate if enabled in BIOS. You can prevent this by checking BIOS settings, placing your preferred boot drive first, and turning off network boot or wake features. Then check Windows Update for pending updates and install anything from your device manufacturer to keep firmware in line with Microsoft system requirements.
