Office Apps show 2 product activations in the Office Account Panel

I recently noticed my Office Apps loading as 2019 even though I installed 2024LTSC about a year ago. This happened after I did an online Office Repair.

(This explains why I did the repair, but I don't think the problem with Outlook relates to the problem I'm asking about, it's just what caused me to do the repair. Outlook had slowed down tremendously. The Repair didn't work. I later determined the Office slowdown was due to a problem with an email account. When I removed the offending account, Outlook was immediately restored. So, that was cool!)

After the repair, I noticed 2019 displayed during App startup and when I checked the Office Account panel in any of the primary Office Apps, it displayed only the 2019 Product.

I took the following actions:

  1. Attempted to update the 2024 LTSC license key within the Apps. Didn't help.
  2. Confirmed in Settings > Apps that Office 2024 LTSC is the loaded software. It is.
  3. Followed the steps at this URL to remove a folder named '5' in the licensing folder.
  4. Restarted Windows.

The Office Apps now show 2024 when loading, so that seems to have worked well. But when I look at the Office Account panel in the individual apps, they still show 2 Product Activations. See below:

Is it important to remove the old 2019 Product Activation to avoid this happening in the future? How can I remove the old 2019 Product Activation?

Thanks.

    Hello Alan,

Thanks for reaching out. Good work on the fixes so far. The issue you’re facing usually occurs because the repair process re-registered the old Office 2019 license instead of deleting it. Now, both licenses are visible in the account panel. Although this doesn't impact how it works, it might create issues later, particularly if updates check out the wrong license.

The simplest method to get rid of the old activation is by using the Office Software Protection Platform (OSPP) tool included with Office. Run ospp.vbs /dstatus from the Command Prompt to view all keys, then use ospp.vbs /unpkey:<last 5="" characters=""> to uninstall the 201</last>9 key. Restart after that and confirm only the 2024 LTSC key is there. Before all this, could you see if both licenses say “Activated” or if one says “Unlicensed”? This will show which key needs to be removed.
