Windows 11 not finding drivers

Bought a new Dell laptop and migrated from Windows 10. Tried downloading drivers for my old Brother mfc6490cw printer. Download seemed to work. Says that a was "decompressed" but under Printers it says it can't find driver. Not a USB cable issue. Tried removing all traces of Brother printer and reinstalled drivers. No good. Why isn't this a seamless process? I've spent days trying to resolve. Is this a problem with Windows 11? If so, what is the fix. If the Brother drivers are no good or not compatible, say so. Brother says they should work. Is there a specific place that the drivers should be downloaded to?

I'm sorry I upgraded.

It sounds like you're experiencing issues with driver compatibility for your Brother MFC-6490CW printer after migrating to Windows 11. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

    1. Check Compatibility: Ensure that the drivers you downloaded are specifically for Windows 11. Sometimes, drivers that work on Windows 10 may not be fully compatible with Windows 11.
    2. Use Windows Update: Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates. Windows may have compatible drivers available through this service.
    3. Brother's Website: Visit the Brother support website and search for your printer model. Make sure to download the latest drivers that are explicitly labeled for Windows 11.
    4. Device Manager: Open Device Manager, find your printer, and check if there are any error messages. You can also try to uninstall the printer from Device Manager and then reinstall it.
    5. Print Server: If your printer is networked, ensure that the print server is correctly configured and that the printer is accessible from your laptop.
    6. Print Test Page: After installing the drivers, try printing a test page to see if the installation was successful.

If the drivers from Brother are confirmed to be compatible and you're still facing issues, it may be worth reaching out to Brother's support for further assistance. They may have specific guidance for resolving driver issues on Windows 11.

    Hi ,

Access the device manager > check if it appears in the USB controllers and printers tab.

If you are using a USB cable, disconnect it before performing this procedure.

To do this, go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth and devices > Devices > Additional device and printer settings > right-click the mfc6490cw device and select Remove devices.

Open a command prompt (administrator) and run the following commands: sfc /scannow and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth. Wait for the process to complete, and then restart your computer.

After restarting, download Brother Autorun and run the installer.
