Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.
Just to clarify, there’s currently no direct “convert” button that switches a Microsoft 365 Family subscription to a Personal one. Instead, what usually happens is you turn off recurring billing for the Family plan and then wait for it to expire, at which point you can purchase the Personal plan instead.
Here’s what I suggest doing:
- Check your current subscription status > Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services and confirm which subscription is active.
- Turn off recurring billing for the Family plan > This ensures you won’t be charged again.
- Once it expires, you’ll be able to purchase Microsoft 365 Personal normally.
Since you also mentioned being affected by the Australian subscription changes and losing access to your Classic features, I recommend contacting Microsoft Support directly so they can review your account and help restore the correct plan or issue a refund if applicable. The support team can see the details on your account and make adjustments we can’t do from here.
- Here is the link: https://support.microsoft.com/home/contact
- Type this keyword and press Enter: Contact Support.
- At the bottom, click "Sign in to contact support" and sign in with your Personal Microsoft account (Not work or school account), or click "Contact Support" if you're already signed in.
- In Product and services, select "Microsoft 365 and Office".
- In Category, select "Manage my subscription".
- Click "Chat with a support agent in your web browser".
If you ever find yourself stuck in a loop, please use the keywords "Contact Support" or "Live Chat" (without the quotes) and click "Contact Support" at the bottom.
I know this process can feel exhausting, and I truly hope it gets resolved quickly for you.
I really hope this information is helpful! Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.
Regards,
John J.D.
