Snip tool no longer copies to clipboard after recent update (KB5070311) on 12/2/2025.

Things wind up in screen shoot folder in OneDrive and when I try to copy from there, no go. Looked at settings in snip tool and nothing sticks out in terms of why its not working.

If the Snip tool is not copying to the clipboard after the recent update, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can consider:

    1. Check Clipboard Settings: Ensure that clipboard history is enabled in your Windows settings. You can do this by going to Settings > System > Clipboard and toggling on "Clipboard history".
    2. Restart the Snip Tool: Sometimes, simply closing and reopening the Snip tool can resolve temporary glitches.
    3. Update the App: Make sure that the Snip tool is updated to the latest version. Check for updates in the Microsoft Store.
    4. Check OneDrive Settings: Since you mentioned that snips are being saved to the OneDrive folder, ensure that OneDrive is syncing properly and that there are no issues with file permissions.
    5. Reinstall the Snip Tool: If the problem persists, consider uninstalling and reinstalling the Snip tool to reset its settings.
    6. Feedback to Microsoft: If this issue started after a specific update, consider providing feedback to Microsoft through the Feedback Hub, as they may address it in a future update.

These steps may help resolve the issue with the Snip tool not copying to the clipboard.

    Hi David,

Could you please click the cloud icon > Settings > Turn off "Saving screenshots to Onedrive"?

    #2:

    Restart the Clipboard user service:

    1. Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
    2. Type services.msc and press $Enter$ to open the Services Manager window .
    3. Scroll down and look for a service named Clipboard User Service or one starting with cbdhsvc_ (e.g., cbdhsvc_324d9).
      • Note: In Windows 11, the service name is often displayed as the technical name, cbdhsvc_, followed by a unique string of characters for your user session.
    4. Right-click on the identified service name.
    5. Select Restart from the context menu.
    6. Wait a few moments for the service to stop and start again.
    7. Close the Services Manager window and test your clipboard functionality.

    Reset Snipping tool:

Press Windows + I to open Settings.

Go to Apps > Installed apps.

    Search Snipping Tool.

Click the three dots (…) > Advanced options.

    Scroll down and click Terminate.

    Then click Reset and confirm.

I’m eager to hear back and work together to find a solution.
